The 8th Specialized Congress and the 2nd International Congress on Infection Control and Sterilization, Materials, and Medical Equipment were held on August 12 and 13, 2018, from 8 AM to 6 PM at Razi Conference Hall, organized by Iran University of Medical Sciences.
The slogan of the congress was “National Determination for the Formation of an Integrated System for Monitoring, Preventing, and Controlling Infections in line with the 2025 Vision.”
The objectives of the 8th Infection Control Congress were defined as follows:
- Reducing infections associated with healthcare and services
- Enhancing public health by presenting the latest research and scientific achievements
- Integrating and coordinating the activities of agencies and institutions involved in infection prevention and control
In this congress, 81 papers were presented by 237 researchers on the main themes.
At the opening ceremony of the 8th Specialized Congress and the 2nd International Congress on Infection Control and Sterilization, Materials, and Medical Equipment, the scientific secretary of the congress, Dr. Reza Shah Ghadami, the executive secretary of the congress, Mr. Mohammad Tahmasebi, and the president of Iran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Masoud Naseri-Pour, were present.
In the opening ceremony on Sunday, August 12, Dr. Shah Ghadami stated, “Infection control is a multi-faceted activity that requires the collaboration of all active sectors and organizations in this field. Increasing the sense of responsibility and accountability can lead to better control of hospital infections.”
During the opening session, Dr. Masoud Naseri-Pour addressed the issue of hospital infections, stating that to combat this problem, precise information must be collected and appropriate planning must be conducted. He emphasized the necessity of a national program for the registration and evaluation of infectious diseases, requiring comprehensive control and an integrated system. He also highlighted the importance of sterilizing medical instruments and equipment, stressing that developing medical standards, improving relevant guidelines, and securing financial and human resources are essential for reducing hospital infections. Additionally, he suggested the formation of a think tank to create an integrated structure for infection control, design new indicators, and develop audit methods.
Following this, Dr. Shahriari, secretary of the Health Benefactors Assembly, stated that hospital infections are a top priority in the healthcare sector, and that the potential of young professionals, especially women, should be utilized to address this issue. He stressed that given the high costs of hospital infections, necessary training should be provided for their control, traditional Iranian medicine methods should be promoted, and efforts should be made to reduce patients’ hospital stays and expand home nursing care. He also emphasized the need for a special budget allocation for medical equipment.

Additionally, during the workshop, Engineer Pourhassan provided a brief overview of Abadis Med’s products, company history, and target market.
At the closing ceremony, Abadis Med held a raffle, and one visitor to the Abadis booth was awarded a gift.
